Music

Allah-Las

Allah-Las

9:00-10:00p - Main Stage

Allah-Las met while working at the biggest of all the L.A. Record stores, but they became a band in an even more rare and special space—a California basement, dug out somewhere between the mountains and the beach. They began gigging shortly after their conception in and around Los Angeles in the later part of 2008. It wasn’t until three years later that they would find the proper environment to record their first single “Long Journey” which now bookends their self-titled release. These were the kind of songs that bounced between London and Los Angeles, the kind of thing that could have come from Mick Jagger or Arthur Lee or both at once, with crystalline guitar and slow-mo drums that recalled the way the waves take big bites of the beach at night. This was mystery music from the strange and ancient-modern California fringe, more Night Tide than Easy Rider. Allah-Las were a reflection of a reflection, an echo of an echo, a band that was psychedelic not because of reverb or shredding through pedals but for the simple way their songs seem to extend to infinity. (Chris Ziegler)

Jesse Jo Stark

Jesse Jo Stark

8:00-8:40p - Main Stage

Jesse Jo Stark, the brooding singer-songwriter who was one of Guns N’ Roses opening acts last year, performs with a full-throttle voice that growls through spooky lyrics about zombies, spiders, and the terrors of love. American Songwriter magazine compares her to Mazzy Star, and even the cynics at Vice admit she’s on the rise. Stark began writing songs at age ten, then fought extreme shyness to start performing original material in her teens to emerge as a performer to watch.  (Faran Krentcil, Elle Magazine)

Georgia Anne Muldrow

Georgia Anne Muldrow

7:00-7:40p - Main Stage

Part of the fabric of Los Angeles’ hip-hop / jazz / soul avant-garde since 2005, Georgia Anne Muldrow has built a mightily impressive discography and a reputation to match during her career as a vocalist, songwriter, producer and musician. It is fitting that in 2018 she should sign to Flying Lotus’s Brainfeeder imprint – a record label deeply embedded in LA, with a ton of shared history and a united vision of the future – to release her stunning new album.

It’s Georgia’s rich musical heritage and the sheer weight of her catalogue that has earned her the respect of peers such as Mos Def (“She’s incredible. She’s like [Roberta] Flack, Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, she’s something else.”), Erykah Badu (with whom she collaborated on “New Amerykah Part Two” in 2010), Bilal and Robert Glasper who invited Georgia to perform on his “Miles Ahead” OST in 2016.

Thumpasuarus

Thumpasaurus

6:00-6:40p - Main Stage

Fresh back from performing at  Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Thumpasaurus hits the stage at OAM18. Thumpasaurus is a five piece punk/funk band that draws its influence from a species of shamanic dinosaur that existed in pre-historic times. They specialize in making people dance, sweat and enjoy themselves.  Thumpasaurus is for everyone who enjoys live music. There is plenty to listen to if you don’t like to dance and there is plenty to dance to if you don’t like to listen. Everyone is welcome at a Thumpasaurus show. Just come dance!

La Chamba

5:00-5:40p - Main Stage

La Chamba plays chicha, a distinctive style of cumbia, one with Brazilian carimbó, Andean huayno and American acid rock in its blood. But it’s distinctly Peruvian, an obscure form that arose in the ’70s from the shanties outside Lima. It was, in its earliest form, music played by working-class migrants from the jungles and mountains of Peru, banged out on cheap instruments at neighborhood parties. And, unexpectedly, the music has become one of the linchpins of L.A.’s thriving Latin alternative scene. (Chris Kissel, LA Weekly)

The Altons

The Altons

4:00-4:40p - Main Stage

The Altons are a soul rock group with a twist of Latin inspired flavors and rhythms. Their music is driven by intense grooves from the rhythm section that will bring you to your feet, while soulful leads inspire lovers to dance a little closer.  When they take control of any stage you can always expect a fun and energetic time. From dirty blues guitar riffs to funky jams, these five musicians are sure to make the old and young crowd put on their dancing shoes. Years of experience let the band play off of each other’s chemistry assuring each night is a unique experience with the audience. Always expanding the doors for new fans while staying true to their hometown roots The Altons vivacious cumbias are a sure shot to get any crowd singing in English or Spanish.

Everyone wins! Approximately 20% of fruits and vegetables in the U.S. never leave the farm just because they look a little different. Instead of ending up on your dinner plate, they end up left in the field or trucked to landfill. We think that’s crazy, and we’ve built a network of over 150 farmers and producers who agree. We buy their unloved produce, and they’re rewarded for their full harvest–not just for the pretty stuff.
